Hastings Native Klimek Assists the Game Winner in Women's Hockey's Win Over Cardinals

Box Score HASTINGS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In the first Division III women's hockey game played at the Hastings Civic Arena, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated Saint Mary's University 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The game featured Hastings sisters Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) for St. Scholastica and Mackenzie Klimek for Saint Mary's. Both were captains for the Hastings Raiders varsity team.

The Saints got on the board first as Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) scored less than four minutes into the contest. Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) had the assists. The Cardinals tied it up when Breanna Peterson scored with less than 12 minutes left in the period. CSS outshot Saint Mary's 15-4 in the first 20 minutes.

Saint Mary's (3-4-0) had the slight edge in shots the rest of the way, but the Saints would go back in front with less than four minutes left in the second period when Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored. Klimek and Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) had the assists.

The third period would go scoreless as the Saints prevailed by a score of 2-1.

Final shot totals were in favor of the Saints by a margin of 29-20. CSS goalie Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) stopped 19 shots to earn the win, while Sarah Gustafson had 27 saves in the losing effort for the Cardinals.

The Saints (3-1-2) will be off until Friday, November 30th when they are back at home and back in conference play when they host Adrian College (Mich.) for a weekend series. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
