Men’s Cross Country Wins Fourth Straight UMAC Title

NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team won its fourth consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship and its fifth overall on Saturday at Flandreau State Park.

The Saints finished with 37 points, while Northland College placed second with 62 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was third with 86 points.

The Saints had four runners finish in the top seven, including places second, third and fourth. Adam Zais of Northland College won the meet for the second consecutive year with a time of 26:22.

Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) led the Saints placing second overall 44 seconds back of the winner with a time of 27:06. Ethan Schubert (Two Harbors, Minn./Home School) was third overall with a time of 27:32. Charlie Habermann (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) was nine seconds behind Schubert with a time of 27:41. The final Saint in the top 10 was Ben Carlson (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS (Saint Mary’s)) in seventh with a time of 28:10.

Lawson, Schubert, Habermann and Carlson all earn All-UMAC accolades for placing in the top 12. Schubert earns all-conference honors for the second consecutive year.

Ryan Soule (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) was the last CSS runner to score in 21st with a time of 29:34. Sam Toso (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) was 23rd posting a time of 29:46 and Tim Dunstan (Dollar Bay, Mich./Dollar Bay HS) was 24th, one second back.

The Saints will look to qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships next at the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday, November 10th.
