PREVIEW: Saints Return to NCHA Play with Weekend Series vs. Pointers

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team will stay on the road and return to conference play with a weekend series against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers in Stevens Point, Wis. this weekend.

Game Times:
Friday - 7 p.m.
Saturday - 2:30 p.m.

Last Action: 
The Saints came away from a trip to Minneapolis last weekend with two ties with the Augsburg Auggies 2-2 and 1-1. 

St. Scholastica Saints (9-3-3, 7-2-1 NCHA)
The Saints have had an outstanding season in their second year as a program and sit in a tie for third place in the NCHA with Stevens Point, and part of that is due to their perfect 4-0-0 record on the road in NCHA play … The only two conference losses for the Saints were to UW-River Falls, the eighth ranked team in the nation … The Saints have been led this year by sisters Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) and Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) … Nina leads the team with 22 total points on 13 goals and nine assists, while sister Monika is next in line with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists … Captain Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) leads the team in assists with 13 and is third on the team in total points with 17 … Shannon Connolly (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) and Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) have split time for the Saints in goal this season … Connolly has started eight games on her way to a 5-1-2 record while Friesen has started seven games and has a record of 4-2-1 … The goaltenders have combined for a .877 save percentage … The Saints look to finish stronger than last season when they dropped seven of their last eight games.

UW-Stevens Point Pointers (8-5-2, 7-2-1 NCHA)
The Pointers are currently tied for third in the conference with an identical record to St. Scholastica, and also have a perfect 4-0-0 road record in the conference … The test will begin now for UWSP however as three of their next four series are against teams in the top half of the conference (St. Scholastica, UW-Superior, Lake Forest) … The Pointers are ranked sixth in the country with a combined special teams percentage of .565 … Erin Marvin leads the team this season with 16 points on six goals and 10 assists … Cassandra Salmen is in second with 13 points also having six goals but only seven assists and Brook Hanson has six goals and six assists for 12 points … Allie Tanzer is also tied for first in goals on the team with six despite only nine total points … Janna Beilke-Skoug has gotten the majority of the playing time in goal this year on her way to a 6-4-2 record with a .833 save percentage … The Pointers hope to avoid an ending like last year's when they went 0-5-2 in their final seven games.
 
Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. UW-Stevens Point: 0-2-0)
The Pointers swept the Saints last year in a series in Duluth 1-0 and 3-2.  Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) had a goal and an assist in game two.
