EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team finished 17th out of 22 teams Friday evening at the Blugold Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse took first place with 49 points. St. Olaf College was second with 79 points and the University of Wisconsin-Stout was third with 102 points. The Saints, who finished with 487 points, beat out conference competitors North Central and Crown College.
Freshman
Alex Schoneberger (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) led the Saints with a 71st place finish in a time of 27:00.
Tony Bye (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS) was the next CSS runner to finish in 93rd with a time of 27:36. Just six seconds and two spots back was
Ethan Schubert (Two Harbors, Minn./Home School) in 95th.
Jimmy Linn (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) was the fourth Saint to cross the finish line in 111th place with a time of 28:07. The final CSS runner to score was
Ben Carlson (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS (Saint Mary’s)) with a time of 28:26, which was good enough for 117th place.
Just finishing out of the scoring was
Matthew Quanrud (Preston, Minn./Filmore Central HS) in 118th with a time of 28:27.
Brian Riley (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS) was 125th, posting a time of 28:52.
The Saints will compete back-to-back weekends for the first time this season when they take part in the Bethany Lutheran Invitational next Saturday. This is the same course where the conference championship meet will be held. The men's race gets underway at 11 a.m.
