DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team took a tough loss against Northwestern College Friday night 62-54 at the Reif Gymnasium.
With a back-and-fourth battle in the first half, the Saints would have their largest lead of the game of five, five minutes into the first half. The Eagles then opened up an eight-point lead with two minutes to go in the first half. The Saints cut it down to three in the final moments of the half, but Northwestern's Katie DeWitt drained a 30-foot 3-pointer as time expired to make the halftime score 32-26 Eagles.
CSS shot 31-percent from the field in the first half, while Northwestern shot 40-percent.
Northwestern opened up a 9-0 lead at the start of the second half, but the Saints would slowly chip away at the margin. A #Kayla Heisler# 3-pointer gave the Saints back the lead at 50-49 with five minutes to go.
However, the Eagles took the lead for good at the 2:21 mark and held the Saints scoreless in the final two minutes to win by a score of 62-54.
St. Scholastica falls to 7-13 overall (4-5 UMAC), while Northwestern improves to 11-9 overall (7-2 UMAC).
Sophomore #Bri Allen# led the Saints with 19 points in the game. Northwestern's Katie DeWitt finished the game with 28 points. The Eagles had 22 points off CSS turnovers, the Saints finished with 10.
It will be Alumni Day for the CSS basketball teams tomorrow at Reif Gymnasium. The women's Alumni Game will take place at 11 a.m., prior to the Saints' game against Crown College at 3 p.m. The Crown game can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
