DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team settled for a 1-1 tie against its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rivals from the University of Wis.-Eau Claire on Friday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena.
With the tie, the Saints move to 7-15-2 on the season (5-12-2 NCHA). The Blugolds settle in at 12-7-5 (9-6-4 NCHA).
Eau Claire got on the board first just 6:10 into the first period as Dani Kerr scored her seventh of the year with an assist by Allison Malecek.
The Blugolds out-shot the Saints nine shots to five in the first period, and then 15 shots to seven in the second, but CSS took the one that counted as #Brenna Flatley# scored her fourth of the year on the powerplay late in the period. #Kiana Leisz# and #Jana Henry# had the assists.
The score held at one apiece throughout the third period and into overtime. CSS out-shot UWEC seven to five in the third and two to one in the extra session.
#Rachel Borchardt# stopped 29 of 30 shots for the Saints in settling for the tie. For UWEC, Mara Stormer stopped 20 of 21 shots.
The Saints finished with five penalties for ten minutes while the Blugolds finished with three for six. CSS scored once on three powerplay opportunites while holding UWEC scoreless on five.
