DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team beat Northland College by a score of 66-56 at Reif Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Northland (10-9, 4-4 UMAC) started the game on a 6-0 run, yet CSS responded with an 8-0 run to take an 8-6 early lead. The 'Jills went up by seven halfway through the first half. However, the Saints closed the half on a 19-8 run, which gave CSS a 31-27 lead heading into the locker-rooms.
The Saints (7-12, 4-4 UMAC) shot 46-percent from the field in the first half, while Northland shot 30-percent. Northland took 14 shots from behind the arc in the first half, but only made four.
CSS would never give up their lead in the second half. At one point in the half the Saints pushed their lead to 11 points, which was the highest lead in the game for both sides. The Saints would end up winning by a score of 66-56.
Northland continued to shoot from behind the arc in the second half, and finished 7-for-26 for the game; while CSS went 5-for-13.
#Bri Allen# led CSS with 24 points, and grabbed 12 rebounds, which gives her three double-doubles this year. #Kayla Heisler# was second for the Saints with 14 points. Maria Mackey led Northland College with 17 points. CSS hustled its way with 13 second-chance points, which Northland got three. The Saints got a much needed boost from their bench with 16 points.
The Saints will be at home again this weekend when they take on Northwestern College on Friday night and Crown College for Alumni Day on Saturday. Friday's game against Northwestern is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The action can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
