Last Action: The Saints were last in action in Minneapolis on Tuesday night where they fell to the North Central University Rams 87-81.
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds.
St. Scholastica Saints (0-6)
The Saints' struggles continue after a close loss to the Rams earlier this week, and they are still searching for their first victory of the season. Tester has led the way for the Saints this season in both points and rebounds per game (ppg/rpg) averaging 16.3 ppg and 6.7 rpg.
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) is the only other player averaging double figures in points averaging 11.2/game.
MarShaan Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis North HS (Minneapolis Comm. & Tech. College)) has also been a big rebounder for the team averaging 5.8/game and also leading the team with 12 blocks this season.
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) is the team's leading assists and steals man averaging 4.2 assists per game and has 12 steals on the year.
Finlandia Lions (3-6)
After losing 11 of their first 12 games a season ago, the Lions are most definitely off to a better start with their 3-6 mark this season. The Lions lost their first three games of the season and since then the Lions have gone .500 to get to this point. Through the first eight games, the Lions had four players averaging double figures in ppg; Jonathon Moore (12.3), Chase Leskela (12.0), Keith Arnold (11.1) and Anthony Grandberry (10.0). Moore and Leskela also lead the team in rebounding averaging 5.6/game and 5.5/game respectively. Grandberry is the team's best three-point shooter at 40.9% (9-22).
Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. Finlandia: 12-7)
The Saints and Lions met just a week ago in Hancock, Mich. where Finlandia came out on top 79-53. Tester led the Saints with 19 points.
Women's Basketball
Last Action: The Saints got their first victory of the season and it was a big one at North Central on Tuesday, 94-41. The Saints had six players score in double figures including
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) with 17 and
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) with 16. Huber also went 4-4 from three point range.
St. Scholastica Saints (1-6)
The Saints have had a less than glamorous start to their season against some tough opponents, but look to turn it around after a huge victory at North Central. The Saints are playing at home for the first time since the season opener vs. UW-Eau Claire almost a month ago.
Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) was the team's leading scorer through three games at 10.7/game before going down with an injury.
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS), last year's UMAC Freshman of the Year is averaging 10.5 ppg in her first two games back after missing the first five. The post play for CSS has been good this year as well led by senior
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) and sophomore
Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS). Amys is the team's leading rebounder with 7.1/game and McKernon is averaging 9.9 ppg and 4.7 rpg. Huber has been a bright spot off the bench shooting nearly 65% from beyond the arc this season.
Finlandia Lions (2-8)
The Lions haven't had the greatest start either but are also coming off of an overtime victory to Northland College (Wis.) earlier this week. Through nine games, the team's leading scorer and rebounder was Shaikiera Armstrong with 15.8 ppg and 10.4 rpg. Armstrong is the only player averaging double figures in either category, but Marissa Burke is right on the cusp averaging 9.9 ppg. Armstrong is also the team leader in blocks having 16 through nine games.
Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. Finlandia 18-9)
The Saints and Lions last met a season ago in Duluth where the Lions snuck out with a road victory 73-70.
