FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team did not need overtime in the second game of the series against Marian University (Wis.) as
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) recorded her first collegiate hat-trick, while
Shannon Connolly (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) recorded a shutout as the Saints skated to a 5-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)) put the Saints on the board first 12:13 into the game with the assist from
Alana Levido (Richmond, British Columbia/Burnaby North Secondary (Pacific Steelers)). This would be the only goal of the period. The shots were almost even in the period with the Saints having the edge 6-5.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored her first of three goals 5:39 into the second period with assists from
Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) and, sister,
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)).
Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) scored her first goal of the year with five minutes left in the period with the assist coming from
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall).
Going into the third period the Saints would lead the shots on goal column 19-8 and also have a 3-0 lead.
Waidacher would score her two other goals completing the hat trick with goals coming at the 5:39 mark and with 30 seconds left in the game to give her 11 goals on the year. She currently leads the nation in points per game (2.38). The Waidacher sisters have now each recorded a hat trick this season.
Shannon Connolly (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) picked up the win stopping 12 shots. Marian goaltenders would face 37 shots in the contest with two goaltenders splitting up the total saves at 32.
Both teams would not convert on the power play with St. Scholastica going 0-for-6 and Marian going 0-for-4.
The Saints (6-2) will take their program-best four game win streak up against Adrian College next Sunday with action starting at 7 p.m. local time at Mars Lakeview Arena. The game can be viewed live on csssaints.com via Game Central.
