DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team left St. Louis county on Tuesday to play a pair of schools from the city of St. Louis on Friday and Saturday in Webster University and Fontbonne University.

The Saints were defeated by Twin Ports rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday, December 17th by a score of 82-68. Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) led the team with 16 points and Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) set a program record with seven blocks.

St. Scholastica Saints (2-7)
The Saints will be playing their final non-conference games of the season this weekend … After starting the season 0-6, the Saints have won two of their last three games … One of the keys for the Saints' success is taking care of the basketball … In its two wins, CSS had less than 16 turnovers, but in six of the seven losses the Saints had 20 or more turnovers … The other key is rebounding … In the two wins, they have outrebounded opponents, but have been outrebounded in the seven losses … Opponents have nearly 40 more offensive rebounds than the Saints and are averaging around 15 second-chance points per game … In six of the first nine games this season, freshman guard Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) has led or tied for the team-high in scoring … She has scored exactly 100 points thus far in her college career and is averaging 11.1 points per game … She is also a factor defensively with 30 steals already … She is third on the team, averaging 4.2 rebounds per contest … With sophomore guard Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS)'s return, the Saints have another threat on the perimeter as Heisler is averaging 13.3 points per game in her first four games back … CSS has been tremendous at the free throw line this season, ranked 25th in Division III with a .756 percentage … Only one Saint is shooting below 60-percent from the charity stripe.

Webster Gorloks (1-8)
Webster University plays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) … The current SLIAC football members play in the UMAC for football and include Greenville (Ill.), Eureka (Ill.), MacMurray (Ill.) and Westminster (Mo.) … Webster made the NCAA Tournament last season … The lone victory for the Gorloks this season came against Austin College (Texas) … Webster does not have a single player averaging double-figures in scoring as Maggie Zehner leads the team at 9.7 points per game … Gwen Williams is right on her heels at 9.4 points per game … As a team, the Gorloks are averaging only 52.5 points per game … However, of their eight losses, five have been by six points or less and have been against quality opponents.
