FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Sophomore Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) scored the game-tying and then game winner in overtime to lead the St. Scholastica women's hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Marian University (Wis.) on Friday night.

A scheduling conflict turned the Sabres (0-8-0, 0-7-0 NCHA) home ice into the practice rink (Rink B) at the Blue Line Family Ice Center, limiting the crowd as there are no bleachers on Rink B.

The Saints would out-shoot Sabres 16-4 in the opening period, but the game remained scoreless into the first intermission. CSS got things going in the second period with a Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) goal two minutes into the period. Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) had the assist.

Malin Zetterberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge Gymnasium) made it a 2-0 St. Scholastica lead with her third goal in as many games, with tonight's coming on the power-play halfway through the period.

Marian responded with a power-play goal by Alex DeBoer with five minutes left in the period. Just one minute and 20 seconds later, the Sabres tied it at 2-2 on a Rachel Mullendore goal. Marian and Mullendore were not done scoring in the period as she scored again with a 1:10 left to put the Sabres up 3-2 at the second intermission.

However that Marian lead did not last long as Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) scored the equalizer three minutes into the third period to make it 3-3. Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had the assist. It remained 3-3 and the game went to overtime.

The Saints lone overtime win in the program's first 31 games came against the Sabres at Mars Lakeview last season by a 4-3 score with Rebeck scoring the game-winner. Well history would repeat itself tonight as Rebeck scored her second of the game with 1:03 remaining to give CSS the 4-3 win. Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) assisted the game winner.

The Saints ended up out-shooting the Sabres 47-20 in the game. Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) made 17 saves to earn the win. Amanda Alexander had 43 saves in the loss for Marian.

The Saints (5-2-0, 5-2-0 NCHA) and Sabres conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at the Blue Line Family Ice Center. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
