The Saints women's basketball team was outrebounded 53-25 in a 72-56 loss to the #21 University of River Falls Falcons in River Falls, Wis. on Wednesday night.
Of the 53 rebounds the Falcons (5-0) pulled down, 25 of them were offensive, allowing for 21 second chance points on the night.
The first half started off with the Falcons showing why they're the 21st ranked team in the nation. River Falls started the game by scoring the first five points and gaining an 11-4 lead five and a half minutes in.
CSS went on a 9-1 run over the next four minutes to take a 13-12 lead. The Falcons regained the lead and kept it the rest of the half other than two ties and the halftime score was 37-32 in favor or River Falls.
The second half was close early on before River Falls went on an 8-0 run to pull ahead 52-37 with 13:02 left in the game.
The Saints began to push back scoring five straight to cut the lead to 10 but the Falcons answered quickly scoring the next 10 points to take a 62-42 lead with 5:12 to go.
CSS made a late game push with another five point run but the Falcons held off the Saints attack and the game ended 72-56 in favor of River Falls.
St. Scholastica ended the game with a better shooting percentage (42.6%), three-point percentage (33.3%) and free throw percentage (73.3%), but the offensive rebounds for River Falls allowed them to take 22 more shots than the Saints.
Leading the way for St. Scholastica was
Haley Hoyer (Pelican Rapids, Minn./Pelican Rapids HS (North Dakota State College of Science)) with 11 points and
Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) and
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) each added 10.
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) and
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) led the way rebounding with five a piece and Hovick also added five steals.
The Saints (0-6) will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Minneapolis to take on the North Central University Rams (0-4) at 5:30 p.m.
