MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was held without a field goal for the first 14 minutes in a 90-53 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday night at the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout, hosted by Stout.
The Saints, who were without sophomore guard
Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) due to injury, were behind 25-5 with seven minutes left in the first half. The Blue Devils led by as much as 24 in the half and went into halftime with a 39-16 advantage.
Stout doubled up CSS in points off turnovers (16-8) and outscored the Saints by 10 points in points in the paint, second-chance points and bench points. The Saints shot just 13-percent in the half, while the Blue Devils shot 36-percent.
Stout opened up the lead in the second half with runs of 21-2 and 11-2 to win by a final score of 90-53.
The Saints shot 23-percent from the field for the game and were 23-for-32 from the free throw line. CSS finished with 22 offensive and 22 defensive rebounds. Stout shot 45-percent for the game and made nine, 3-pointers.
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 11 points to pace the Saints.
Taylor Fellbaum (Minong, Wis./Northwood HS) added nine points and
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) had eight points.
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) recorded a season-high 14 rebounds. Sami Schroeder had 14 points to lead the Blue Devils (2-3).
The Saints (0-4) will face 21st-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie.
