Women’s Hockey Sets Scoring Mark Once Again in 9-0 Win

DULUTH, Minn. – For the second consecutive day, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team set a single-game scoring record in a 9-0 victory on Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep of Finlandia University (Mich.) at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints would get just one goal in each of the first two periods with Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) recording her first collegiate goal in the first and Malin Zetterberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge Gymnasium) scoring her second goal in as many games in the second period.

CSS then exploded for seven goals in the third period. Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) scored her first of the season, one minute an 43 seconds into the period. The Waidacher sisters then added the next three goals with Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) recording a pair and Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) netting the other.

Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) gave the Saints their fifth goal of the period and Rebeck followed with her second of the period. Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) finished the scoring with her second of the period to make the final score 9-0. The Waidacher sisters had 13 points combined in the two games this weekend.

The Saints out-shot the Lions 56-6. Shannon Connolly (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) made six saves to earn her first collegiate shutout. Ashley Pavlish had 32 saves and picked up the loss for the Lions (0-7-1, 0-4-0 NCHA). Breanna Hayes had 15 saves in relief.

The Saints (4-2-0, 4-2-0 NCHA) will have Thanksgiving weekend off and will be in action next on December 2nd and 3rd at Marian University (Wis.).
