DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica football team will take its 14-game winning streak into the NCAA Division III playoffs on Saturday when it takes on third-ranked University of St. Thomas at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
The Saints (10-0, 9-0 UMAC) are making their first NCAA Division III Playoff appearance in just their fourth year as a program. This will be the fourth NCAA Division III Playoff appearance for the Tommies (10-0, 8-0 MIAC) and the program's third consecutive. St. Thomas has yet to lose first round NCAA game. This will be CSS's first game against a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) School in its four years.
For the third straight year, the Saints have improved their regular season win total by three games from the previous season, culminating into a perfect 10-0 mark this year. On their 14-game winning streak the CSS defense has a turnover margin of +34. Only once during the winning streak has the Saints defense not forced a turnover. On the opposite side of the ball, the CSS offense has only turned the ball over a Division III best five times this season.
The Tommies defense is ranked fourth in both scoring and overall in the nation, along with being ranked sixth against the rush. Opponents have scored only five touchdowns against the Tommies at O'Shaughnessy this season. St. Thomas has lost just twice at home under fourth-year head coach Glenn Caruso.
The kickoff is scheduled for noon on Saturday. Check out GameCentral at csssaints.com as Charlie Johnson will have the call.
