MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team battled with injuries and losses all season long, but once again came through to win the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship for the third straight season on Saturday at the Minneopa Golf Course.
The Saints won with 54 points, besting second place Northland College, who had 77 points. The University of Minnesota-Morris came in third with 80 points.
CSS had five runners finish in the top 20. Leading the way was
Alex Schoneberger (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) who finished in third place overall with a time of 27:34.
Ethan Schubert (Two Harbors, Minn./Home School) placed seventh overall with a time of 28:15.
Tony Bye (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS) was 11th, finishing in 28:33.
Schoneberger, Schubert, and Bye all earned All-UMAC accolades for finishing in the top 12. For Bye, he earns all-conference honors for the third straight year.
Just finishing outside of the top 12 was
Ben Carlson (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS (Saint Mary’s)) who was 14th with a time of 29:11.
John Hunn (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) ran a time of 29:25 to finish in 19th place. Was Stubbs was 21st, running a time of 29:35.
The Saints will have next weekend off and will compete next at the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The race begins at 11 a.m.
