DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team placed 43rd out of 47 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational and also was fifth out of nine teams at the Crown College Invite on Saturday.
The Saints had seven runners competing at the Brooks Invitational at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. That is also the same course where the NCAA Division III National Championship meet will be run.
Alex Schoneberger (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) led the Saints with a time of 27:53 to place 219th overall.
Ben Carlson (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS (Saint Mary’s)) was the next Saint to cross the finish line in 254th place with a time of 28:26.
Matthew Quanrud (Preston, Minn./Filmore Central HS) finished in 28:57 and was 276th overall.
Ethan Schubert (Two Harbors, Minn./Home School) was next with a time of 29:00 to place 279th overall. The final Saint runner to score was
Wes Stubbs (Britt, Minn./Virginia HS) in 297th with a time of 29:39.
North Central College (Ill.) won the meet with 49 points. Washington University (Mo.) was second with 137 points and Wheaton College (Ill.) was third with 154 points. CSS finished with 1325 points.
The rest of the team competed at the Crown College Invitational in St. Bonifacius. The Saints were fifth with 151 points. The University of Minnesota-Duluth won the meet with 23 points. The University of St. Thomas was second with 62 points and Concordia-Moorhead was third with 108 points.
Charlie Habermann (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) led CSS with a 33rd place finish in a time of 29:29.
Glen Gross (Hoyt Lakes, Minn./Mesabi East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
Nick Wanner (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) were 34th and 35th. Gross ran a time of 29:34 and Wanner was at 29:35.
John Hunn (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was 39th overall with a time of 29:43 and
Ryan Soule (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) was the final CSS runner to score in 40th with a time of 29:45.
The Saints will not be in action again until the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship meet on Saturday, October 29th. That race begins at noon at Minneopa Golf Course in Mankato, Minn.
