BUFFALO, Minn. – For the second consecutive night, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell victim to a power-play goal in overtime as Bethel University defeated the Saints on Saturday night 3-2 at the Buffalo Civic Center.
The Saints (4-9-1) put the first goal on the board when #Jordan Klimek# scored her second goal in as many nights, six minutes and 28 seconds into the game and with one second left on the power-play. #Brenna Flatley# had the assist.
CSS extended its lead with 7:45 left in the opening period when #Libby Guzzo# put in the rebound. #Jana Henry# and #Michelle Fischer# assisted on the goal.
The Royals (6-6-1) quickly tied it up with a pair of goals 28 seconds apart, five minutes into the second period. Kate Wahlin netted the first goal, while Anna Carlson added the second tally. Bethel controlled the second period, out-shooting the Saints 13-6.
Neither team would score in the third period as the Saints outshot the Royals 11-9. Then it was déjà vu from Friday night in overtime as the Saints were called for a penalty just 26 seconds into the period. Bethel took advantage and Cristina Masten put in a rebound one minute and 24 seconds into the overtime session to make the final 3-2.
#Rachel Borchardt# had 27 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Jess Newstrom had 23 saves to earn the win for the Royals.
The Saints will be back at home for the first time since November 20th when they host the College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. The game can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
