Women’s Basketball Unable to Take Down UMAC Leader

MORRIS, Minn. – The St Scholastica women's basketball team couldn't keep up with University of Minnesota-Morris, losing on Saturday by a score of 66-56 on Jim Gremmels Court.

Morris (12-6, 7-0 UMAC) started out hot from the start, going on a 23-3 run. CSS (6-12, 3-4 UMAC) got back it in with a 10-2 run to cut it back to eight. The Cougars ended the first half with a 40-29 advantage.

The Saints shot 46-percent from the field, while Morris shot 52-percent. Morris's Steph Roggenbuck had 17 points in the first half.

CSS got the margin down to five in the first three minutes of the second half after a #Kelly Cinquegrani# layup. Morris climbed back up by 14 with 3:41 on the clock before the Saints quickly stormed back to cut the margin back to five with 1:27 to play. However, the Cougars made the free throws at the end and held on to win 66-56.

The Saints shot 40-percent for the entire game, while Morris shot 46-percent. The Saints bench outscored the Cougar bench 26-14.

#Kayla Heisler# led the Saints with 10 points, while Morris's Steph Roggenbuck led the game with 22 points. #Erin Morstad# added nine points off the bench for CSS. #Laura Amys# had eight points and a team-high six rebounds.

St. Scholastica will host Northland College on Tuesday at Reif Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
