Third Period Goal the Difference in Loss to No. 2 Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team surrendered just one goal, five minutes into the third period in its 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon to second-ranked and undefeated University of Wisconsin-River Falls at Hunt Arena.

Despite being outshot 13-0 in the first period, the Saints (7-11-1, 5-8-1 NCHA) kept the game scoreless into the third period. CSS goaltender #Rachel Borchardt# had another 40-save performance, stopping 40 on the day.

The Falcons (15-0-1, 11-0-1 NCHA) broke through five minutes and 15 seconds into the third period when Katie Flanagan scored an even-handed goal to make the final score 1-0.

Melissa Deardorff had 21 saves in the victory for the Falcons. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power-play.

The Saints will have next weekend off and will be in action again on February 4th and 5th when they host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series at Mars Lakeview Arena.
