PREVIEW: Basketball to Have Conference Home Openers this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's basketball teams will continue Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play when both play host to Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther on Friday and Saturday.

The Vikings were picked to finish fourth in the UMAC in the preseason poll, one place behind CSS … BLC finished the 2009-10 season with a 10-4 conference record after suffering 12 straight losses … This year's Vikings squad returns three solid starters and impactful bench players who will be crucial to the team's success … Alex Weldon and Garrett Benson are the team's leading scorers with 15.5 and 14.2 points per game respectively … The Vikings return Derek Peterson, who was voted to the UMAC All-Defensive team in his freshman campaign … A quick all-around player, Peterson averaged 9.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game … The Vikings defeated their rival, Martin Luther, on Tuesday night 76-67 for their first UMAC victory of the year.
