Saints Leave Lower Michigan with a Pair of Losses

ADRIAN, Mich. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was defeated by Adrian College (Mich.) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs completed the weekend sweep of the Saints.

The Saints fall to 2-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). This was the first road trip for the Saints in this inaugural season. The Bulldogs improve to 7-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference. Adrian is unbeaten in its last six games.

The Bulldogs netted a pair of goals in the final 5:01 of the first period to take a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Ashley Aiken scored with 5:01 to go in the period and Nicky Futers added another with 17 seconds left.

The Saints cut the lead to 2-1 halfway through the second period when #Sonja Sorakrai# scored her first goal as a Saint. #Briget Cojocar# and #Michelle Fischer# had the assists.

However, the Bulldogs quickly got the margin back at two goals when Olivia Rork scored one minute and 10 seconds later to make it 3-1. The Saints controlled the second period outshooting Adrian 11-4, but still trailed by two at the second intermission.

The Bulldogs would add two more goals in the third period to make the final score 5-1.

In her second action of the season, #Gabby Baldassari# had 23 saves to pick up her first loss. Emily Michelin had 23 saves to earn the victory. Michelin had school-record shutout streak of 234 minutes and 58 seconds before Sorakrai's goal in the second period.

Following the 12-hour plus bus trip back home tonight, the Saints will be back in the Eastern Time Zone next weekend when they face Finlandia University in Hancock, Mich. Saturday's game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time.
