Women’s Hockey Falls in First Game of Road Trip

ADRIAN, Mich. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell in the opening game of a six-game road trip to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rival Adrian College on Saturday evening by a 3-0 final.

The Saints fall to 2-6-1 on the season, including a 1-5-1 mark in the NCHA. The Bulldogs improve to 6-1-1 (4-0-1 NCHA).

Adrian scored singles goals in the first, second, and third periods to edge out the Saints, including a goal just nine seconds into the first period by Stacy Kempson to jump out to an early lead.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Saints 18-10 through two periods, including a second-period goal by Danielle Smith at about the 12-minute mark., but CSS battled back in the third, out-shooting Adrian 10-8 in the final frame. The Bulldogs' final score came on an empty net goal in the closing seconds of the third.

#Michelle Rebeck# had four shots in the third period to lead the way for CSS with a game-high five. #Brian Stepehens# also added three shots, while #Keri Pickel# added two in the third.

Saints goaltender #Rachel Borchardt# earned a hard-luck loss, stopping 23 of 25 shots. For Adrian, Emily Michelin stopped all 21 CSS shots.

Both teams finished scoreless on the powerplay, with the Saints takings three shots on three opportunities and the Bulldogs four shots in four powerplays.

The Saints and Bulldogs will go at it again tomorrow afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m. local time.
