CSS Women Shut Down by Falcons

DULUTH, Minn. – In just its second home game of the season, the St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 48-24 on Thursday night at Reif Gymnasium.

The Falcons (10-3) went on a 7-0 at the beginning of the game to take an early 9-2 lead. The Saints (2-7) got it down to three with 11 minutes in the half following a #Bri Allen# layup. The Falcons quickly answered with an 8-0 run to lengthen the margin to 21-10. CSS got it back down to six with five minutes on the clock, but the Falcons took a 28-19 lead in halftime.

The Saints shot 42-percent in the first half and held the Falcons to 36-percent shooting. River Falls came into the game with a big edge over its opponents on the glass and they had 10 offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes, compared to three for the Saints. However, both teams had just four second-chance points.

It was all Falcons in the second half, even though they were held without a field goal for the first eight minutes. The River Falls defense tightened up and held the Saints to just five points and one field goal in the entire second half, while forcing 22 turnovers. The Falcons went on to win 48-24 for their fourth straight win in the series.

The Falcons outscored the Saints 34-14 in the paint and added 23 points off of 36 CSS turnovers. The Falcons' final tally on the offensive glass was 23-5.

#Laura Amys# led the Saints with seven points and eight rebounds off the bench. Taylor House, Maranda Dohrn, and Nikki Guhr each had eight points to lead the Falcons.

The Saints will be at home again on Sunday when they host bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at Reif Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
