HANCOCK, Mich. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team beat Finlandia University of 69-47 at Paavo Nurmi Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (2-5) took control of the game in the first half early, only surrendering the lead two times. CSS had an 11-point lead three times in the first half, which was the biggest margin they had in the half. #Savanna Treichel# led the Saints with eight first half points, going 2-for-2 from the three-point line. The Lions (1-9) shot only 26-percent from the field in the first half, and were led by Janele Linnas six points in the first half.
The Saints started the second half with a nine-point lead, and never surrendered it. CSS pushed their lead to 23 points, and soon ran away with the game by a score of 69-47 win over the Lions.
Savanna Treichel (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) led the Saints with 22 points, 14 of those points came in the second half. #Kayla Heisler# added 15 points and #Laura Amys# had 11 rebounds and seven steals. The Lions bench kept them in the game with 33 points off the bench, and muscled their way to 24 points in the paint, yet they couldn't keep up with Saints who shot 38 percent from the field.
The Saints will be at North Central University on Thursday to close out play before Christmas. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Minneapolis.
