Superior Scores Two in the Third Period to Rally Past Saints

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team had a 1-0 lead disappear in the third period when the University of Wisconsin-Superior scored a pair of goals to down the Saints 2-1 Tuesday night at Wessman Arena.

Tonight's game was the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opener for both teams and the first road game for CSS. The Saints drop their second one-goal decision in a row and fall to 1-2-0. The Yellowjackets improve to 2-1-0 on the young season.

There would be no scoring in the first 20 minutes of action as the Saints out-shot the Yellowjackets 7-4.

The Saints then struck with the two-man advantage in the second period when #Briget Cojocar# added her second goal in as many games five minutes into the period to make it 1-0. #Kiana Leisz# and #Michelle Rebeck# had the assists.

Superior started to put the pressure on CSS towards the end of the second period and would earn a power-play. With the power-play at the start of the third period, the Yellowjackets tied it up 27 seconds in on a Jenn Paul goal.

UWS continued to control the third period and took the lead with six minutes to go on another Jenn Paul tally. The Saints got one shot on goal with the empty net at the end, but Superior went on to win 2-1.

#Rachel Borchardt# had 20 saves, but earned the loss for the Saints. Shanley Peters had 14 saves to receive the win for the Yellowjackets. After CSS had the edge in shots after the first period, Superior out-shot the Saints 18-8 the final two periods.

The Saints will be at home again this weekend when they host Lake Forest College on Friday and Saturday. Friday's action begins at 7 p.m. The games will not be streamed live, but can be accessed on Saints On-Demand following each contest.
