DULUTH, Minn. – Sophomore #Bri Allen# pulled down a program-record 17 rebounds and added a career-high 25 points as the St. Scholastica women's basketball team won its home opener on Tuesday night at Reif Gym 73-64 over North Central University.
Allen scored the first eight points of the game for the Saints (1-2) with six coming off offensive rebounds. The Saints led by as much as 14 in the first half, but the Rams (0-4) hung around and trailed 37-28 at halftime.
Allen already her second career double-double by halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Saints shot 45-percent in the first half, while North Central shot 32-percent. The Rams were outrebounded 32-11 and gave up 16 second-chance points. The Rams were 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.
CSs opened the second half on a 9-2 run with four points coming from #Kelly Cinquegrani# during that span. The lead got as high as 17 before the Rams got it down to eight. However, that is as close as North Central got with the Saints coming out on top 73-64.
Freshman #Kayla Heisler# also had a good all-around game for the Saints with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Another freshman #Savanna Treichel# chipped in with nine points. The Rams were led by Shoshana Womeldorf with 16 points.
The Saints finished at 47-percent shooting from the field for the game and outscored the Rams 40-22 paint. North Central finished with a field goal percentage of 37-percent.
The Saints will take part in the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout, once again this weekend. The Saints open with, the host, Blue Devils at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Live video of the game will be provided by UW-Stout.
