DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was defeated Friday afternoon by the Concordia University (Wis.) 3-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena.
It didn't take long for the Falcons (2-5-0. 2-2-0 NCHA)) to get on the board as just 29 seconds into the game Samantha Meuwissen scored to make it 1-0. That was the lone goal until the third period. Concordia controlled the puck for the majority of the action, but only out-shot the Saints (1-5-1, 0-4-1 NCHA) 18-15 in the first two periods.
It was all Falcons in the third with a 12-4 edge in shots. Alyssa Isaakson made the score 2-0 for Concordia with a goal 5:36 seconds into the period. April Forar added insurance with a tally at the 7:34-mark of the period to make the final score 3-0.
#Rachel Borchardt# had 27 saves in the loss for the Saints. Lea Jondal had 19 saves to get the shutout for the Falcons. Both teams went a combined 0-for-10 on the power-play. #Jana Henry# led the Saints with four total shots.
The Saints and Falcons will complete their two-game series tomorrow afternoon as it will be first game in the first men's and women's hockey doubleheader at Mars Lakeview Arena. The action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
