ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team won its second consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship and #Nick Mangan# finished first overall on Saturday at the Chequamegon Bay Golf Club.
The Saints finished with 42 points, followed by the University of Minnesota-Morris with 69 points and North Central University was third with 79 points.
Nick Mangan (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) is just the second Saints male runner to win the conference championship since the 1999 season and the first since Chris Rubesch did it in 2007. Mangan finished in a time of 27:02 seconds, 18 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
#Tony Bye# was the next CSS runner to finish, placing fifth overall with a time of 27:47 seconds. Just eight seconds behind him was #Pat Bigaouette# in sixth place.
The top 12 runners earn all-conference accolades, so Mangan, Bye, and Bigaouette take home the honors for the second consecutive year. This is the third consecutive year that Bigaouette has been named All-UMAC.
Just missing all-conference laurels was #Ben Carlson#, who placed 13th overall with a time of 28:43, nine seconds behind 12th place. #Jimmy Linn# was the final Saint to score, placing 17th overall in a time of 29:07 seconds.
Head coach #Steve Pfingsten# was named the conference coach of the year.
The Saints will send their top seven runners to compete at the NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Wartburg College, in a couple of weeks in Waverly, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
