CSS MEN PLACE SECOND AT NORTHLAND INVITE

Mangan finishes third overall

ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team finished second out of five teams today in the 2009 season opening race, hosted by Northland College.

The Saints finished with 62 points, while team winner Gustavus Adolphus was first with 20 points. The University of Wisconsin-Superior was third with 71 points and the host school, Northland, was fourth with 96 points. Gogebic Community College was fifth with 134 points.

Leading the way for the Saints was newcomer #Nick Mangan# (Jr.-Baxter, Minn./Brainerd), who placed third overall with a time of 28:19 seconds. This was Mangan's first time running an 8k race. #Jimmy Linn# (So.-Anoka, Minn.) was CSS's second finisher in a time of 30:44 seconds to place 13th overall. #Tony Bye# (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) was next, 14th overall, with a time of 31:25 seconds. #Nate Boening# (Fr.-Woodbury, Minn./Park) ran a time of 31:31 seconds to finish 15th overall and #Glen Gross# (Jr.-Hoyt Lakes, Minn./Mesabi East) rounded out the top five for the Saints with a 17th place finish and a time of 31:40 seconds.

The Saints will be in action again on Saturday when they compete in the Tom Barry Invitational in Green Bay. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
