PRESENTATION TOO MUCH FOR CSS WOMEN

DULUTH, Minn. – After a heartbreaking loss last night to the conference's best team, the St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell to Presentation College this afternoon by a score of 71-50 at Reif Gym on Parent's Day.

The Saints drop to 7-14 overall and 4-6 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Presentation improves to 5-15 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Presentation has won five of the last six meetings.

Both teams traded baskets early, but it was Presentation that went on an 11-0 run to take a 15-5 lead with 14 minutes to go in the half. The margin got up to 14 with nine minutes to go in the half and the margin stayed in double-figures for the rest of the half. Presentation closed the half on an 8-0 run to go into the locker room with a 37-19 advantage.

CSS shot 33-percent in the first half, while Presentation made 53-percent of its shots. St. Scholastica committed 13 turnovers that resulted into 16 Presentation points.

CSS got the lead down to 14, three minutes into the second half, but Presentation responded with a quick 8-0 run, including back-to-back 3-pointers. The Presentation lead remained in the 20s the rest of the way as Presentation won the battle of the Saints, 71-50.

St. Scholastica shot 34-percent for the game, while Presentation shot 54-percent. Presentation had a 38-28 advantage on the glass and scored 40 of its 71 points in the paint.

#Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) had a career-high 14 points to lead St. Scholastica. #Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) chipped in 11 points, five assists, and five rebounds. Becky Smith had 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace Presentation.

The Saints will be on the road next weekend as they will first face Crown College on Friday. The tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
