CSS WOMEN SEE THEIR SEASON COME TO AN END WITH LOSS

NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team saw its season come to an end tonight with a 55-41 loss to Martin Luther College in the quarterfinals of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Postseason Basketball Tournament.

Martin Luther moves on to face regular season conference champion Northland College on Thursday night in Ashland, Wis.

The Knights scored the first six points of tonight's game and never looked back. The margin got as high as 18-4 with 12 minutes left in the first half. CSS then went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to six with 7:29 left to play. Martin Luther responded with a 12-3 run and went into the locker room with a 32-17 lead.

The Saints shot 23-percent in the first half, while Martin Luther shot 42-percent. The Knights out-scored the Saints 22-6 in the paint in the first 20 minutes of action.

The Martin Luther lead got as high as 25 in the second half. CSS closed its season on an 11-2 run to fall by a final score of 55-41. The Saints shot just 18-percent in the second half to finish at 20-percent for the game. The Knights shot 36-percent for the night.

#Erin Morstad# (Fr.-Fergus Falls, Minn.), #Alexa Leighton# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.), and #Katie Christensen# (Jr.-Elk River, Minn.) all scored six points to lead CSS. #Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) had a team-high seven rebounds. Nicole Lehman, Carrie Fritzer, and Erica Babinec all had 10 points to pace the Knights.

The Saints season ends with a 9-17 overall record. CSS says goodbye to one departing senior in Chelsea Studier (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) (Sr.-Two Harbors, Minn.). For future information concerning the CSS women's basketball program, be sure to visit the Saints athletics web site.
