WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS CONFERENCE OPENER AT NORTHWESTERN

ST. PAUL – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was defeated 71-51 this evening by Northwestern College in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener.

The Saints fall to 2-5 overall with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 4-3 overall. CSS falls to 14-17 all-time when the contest is played at Northwestern. The Saints have lost five straight to the Eagles.

Northwestern scored the first six points tonight and would never trail. The score was 14-4 until the Saints went on a 7-0 run to cut the margin to 14-11. Later in the half, the Saints cut the lead to two with three minutes to go after a #Bri Allen# (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) 3-pointer. However, the Eagles closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 32-22 lead into the locker room.

The Saints shot 28-percent in the first half, while Northwestern shot 45-percent. CSS was out-rebounded 24-16.

Northwestern led by 23 points with eight minutes left in the game, but the Saints went on a 15-4 run to make it 61-49 with three minutes left. The Eagles, though, closed the game out and went on to win by a score of 71-51.

The Saints shot 30-percent for the game, but was 11-of-12 from the free throw line. The Eagles shot 50-percent and finished with a 43-31 advantage on the glass. Northwestern out-scored CSS in the paint 40-22.

#Kelly Cinquegrani# (Jr.-Buffalo, Minn.) led the Saints off the bench, matching a career-high with 18 points. Bri Allen (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) added 16 points off the bench, going 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Both led the team with six rebounds. Katie DeWitt had 19 points to lead Northwestern.

The Saints will face Crown College tomorrow afternoon in St. Bonifacius, Minn. The tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
