DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior rallied from a seven-point second half deficit to defeat the St. Scholastica women's basketball team 70-63 this evening at Reif Gym in the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Yellowjackets improve to 4-1. Superior has won four straight over the Saints at the Reif.
In a tight first half that featured four ties and four lead changes, neither team had a lead larger than five. The Yellowjackets led for the majority of the time and had a slight advantage at the half 37-35.
CSS shot 52-percent in the half, while the Yellowjackets shot 45-percent. The Saints made seven more free throws than Superior in the first 20 minutes. #Katie Christensen# (
Sr.-Elk River, Minn.) had a perfect half for the Saints going 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
St. Scholastica came out hot in the second half and went on a 10-2 run thanks to back-to-back #Ashlee Blegen# (
Fr.-Minong, Wis./Northwood) 3-pointers with 11 minutes to go in the game to take a 57-50 lead.
After that the Saints went cold as they went scoreless for 7:39 seconds. Meanwhile, the Yellowjackets went on an 11-0 run to regain the lead at 61-57. Superior did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way as it made enough free throws to win by a score of 70-63. CSS made just two field goals in the final 11 minutes.
The Saints shot 43-percent for the game, while the Yellowjackets were 45-percent. Superior had a 41-30 edge on the glass, including key offensive rebounds late. Superior out-scored the Saints 14-5 in second-chance points.

The Saints will be at the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday and Sunday. The Saints will open up with the host Blue Devils at 5 p.m. on Saturday. There will be live video of all games, provided by UW-Stout.
