MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica football team could not hold on to a 20-7 halftime lead as the Eureka Red Devils scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to get past the Saints this afternoon 21-20 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
This was the 10th edition of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Dome Day at the Metrodome. The Saints were participating in their second. What hurt CSS today were red zone turnovers. The Saints turned the ball over twice inside Eureka's 20-yard-line in the first half and once in the second half.
St. Scholastica scored on the opening possession of the game as #Christopher Henagin# (
Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) ran it in from three yards out. Henagin ran the ball all six plays down the field. The Saints missed the extra point, which would prove costly.
CSS then scored its second defensive touchdown in as many weeks as #Sean Graskey# (
Fr.-Superior, Wis.) returned a Eureka fumble six yards for a touchdown to make it 12-0.
After a CSS interception deep in Eureka territory, the Red Devils cut the lead to 12-7 in the second quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing possession, the Saints drove the ball down to the Red Devil 2-yard-line, but fumbled on third-and-goal.

So.-Blackduck, Minn.) two-point conversion attempt was successful and the score at the half was 20-7 CSS.
The Red Devils came out fast in the second half as it scored on the first possession with a 28-yard touchdown pass. Then after a CSS fumble at midfield, the Red Devils scored again, this time a 16-yard touchdown reception and after the extra point Eureka had its first lead of the day at 21-20.
Following the touchdown, the Saints drove inside Eureka's 20-yard-line, but again fumbled and gave it to the Red Devils. The Saints did not get into Eureka territory the rest of the way and Red Devils ran out the clock at the end as CSS fell by a score 21-20.
Eureka out-gained the Saints 441-291 in the game. The Saints owned the time of possession, controlling it for over 36 minutes. Both teams lost seven fumbles in the game combined.
Christopher Henagin (Cloquet, Minn./Fond du Lac) went over 1,000 yards rushing this season as he tied his own record by carrying it 32 times for 144 yards.
Jake Olson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) was 11-of-18 for 109 yards through the air. #Mike VanMassenhove# (
So.-Superior, Wis.) led the receiving corps with six catches for 50 yards.
Sean Graskey (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) had 11 tackles, including two sacks to lead the CSS defense.
The Saints fall to 4-5 and will finish up their second season next Saturday when they travel to Martin Luther College for a chance to play for a share of the conference's championship. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC.
