CARLTON, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team not only battled its competitors, but also the weather today at the Pine Hill Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
With the temperature reading 25-degrees and a wind chill much lower than that. Plus, a snow covered course, which made it slippery, gave the CSS runners had a challenge today.
Despite the conditions, head coach
Steve Pfingsten thought the team ran well. There were five personal records and five season-best times on the day for the Saints.
CSS was led by #Tony Bye# (
So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell), who finished 25th overall with a season-best time of 28:23 seconds. #Pat Bigaouette# (
So.-Chaska, Minn.) was 32nd overall with a season-best time of 28:34 seconds. #John Hunn# (
Fr.-Duluth, Minn./East) ran a personal best time of 29:54 seconds to finish 46th overall.

So.-Anoka, Minn.) was not far behind as he was 50th overall with a time of 30:11 seconds. Rounding out the top five for the Saints was #Glen Gross# (
Jr.-Hoyt Lakes, Minn./Mesabi East) with a season-best time of 30:27 seconds to place 52nd. St. Scholastica's top runner #Nick Mangan# (
Jr.-Baxter, Minn.) did not finish today's race due to injury.
Minnesota-Duluth won the event with 31 points. St. Cloud State was second with 60 points. The University of Wisconsin-Superior was third with 98 points.
The Saints will compete at a couple of events next weekend. On Friday, the team will be at the Cobber Invitational, hosted by Concordia-Moorhead. The race begins at 5:15 p.m. On Saturday, select team members will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. That race begins at 10:15 a.m.
