NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The sixth-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team won its seventh straight game tonight with a 5-4 victory over St. Olaf College at the Northfield Ice Center.

The Saints improve to 11-3-1 overall, while the Oles drop to 9-4-1. CSS is now 13-11-3 all-time against the Oles. The Saints are 4-0-1 this season against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents.

It didn't take long for the Saints to get on the board as #Jordan Chong# (Jr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) netted his eighth goal of the season, on the power-play, four minutes into the contest to make it 1-0 CSS. #Jordan Baird# (Jr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) and #Trevor Geiger# (Sr.-Salmon Arm, B.C.) had the assists. St. Olaf took advantage of a power-play with a little more than five minutes left in the opening period to tie the score at 1-1 at the first intermission.

The Oles would take their only lead of the night four minutes into the second period with an even-handed goal. That lead would not last long as it was Jordan Chong (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Dryden (SIJHL)) again scoring on the power-play 3:36 later to tie the contest at 2-2. #Rob Rodgers# (Jr.-Salmon Arm, B.C.) and #Dennis Kubat# (Fr.-Outlook, Sask.) assisted on the goal. Trevor Geiger (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm (BCHL)) then scored his 10th goal of the season with nine minutes to go in the period to give St. Scholastica a 3-2 lead at the second intermission. #Matt Stengl# (Sr.-East Grand Forks, Minn.) and #Austin Brown# (Fr.-Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) had the assists.

St. Olaf tied the score five minutes into the third period, but the Saints responded with an even-handed goal by #Jeremy Dawes# (Fr.-Winnipeg, Man.) to make the score 4-3. Jordan Baird (Port McNeill, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) had the assist. #Joey Martini# (Sr.-Calgary, Alta.) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal three minutes later to make it 5-3. Dawes had the assist. The Oles scored a power-play goal with five minutes left to cut the lead to one and had a power-play at the end of the game, but the Saints held on to the 5-4 victory.

St. Scholastica out-shot St. Olaf 37-27 and both teams converted two power-plays. #Zach Kleiman# (Jr.-Ottawa, Ont.) earned the win in net for the Saints for the second consecutive game, making 23 saves on the night. Ben Leis had 32 saves in the loss for the Oles.

The Saints will be at Gustavus Adolphus College tomorrow night. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
