ABERDEEN, S.D. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team shot a blazing 68-percent in the first half on its way to defeating Presentation College tonight 59-42 at the Strode Center.
The Saints improve their overall record to 3-9 and their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) record to 2-1. Presentation falls to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the UMAC. The Saints are 12-7 all-time against Presentation.
The Saints hit eight of their first nine field goal attempts, but only led by six with eight minutes to play in the half due to 11 turnovers during that span. With the lead down to three, CSS went on a 7-0 run to extend the margin to 10 with two minutes before halftime. The Saints went into the locker room with a 34-23 advantage.
St. Scholastica was 13-for-19 from the field in the half, including 4-for-4 on 3-point attempts. Presentation shot just 36-percent in the half.
Presentation could not get close in the second half as the CSS margin hovered around 11 for the first 10 minutes in the half until the Saints extended the lead to 15 and went on to win by a score of 59-42.
The Saints shot a season-high 48-percent for the game and did not commit a single turnover in the second half. Presentation shot just 26-percent and the CSS bench out-scored the Presentation bench 21-4.
#Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) scored a career-high 13 points off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting to lead CSS. #Kelly Cinquegrani# (So.-Buffalo, Minn.) had 11 points and nine rebounds, while #Katie Christensen# (Jr.-Elk River, Minn.) added 10 points. #Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) also had a nice game with nine points and nine rebounds. Sara Gregersen led Presentation with 14 points.
The Saints will be in action again tomorrow when they play at the University of Minnesota-Morris. The action is set to begin at 3 p.m.
