SLOW START HURTS CSS MEN AT PRESENTATION

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team scored just two points in the first nine minutes and could never recover as Presentation went on to win 78-60 tonight at the Strode Center.

The Saints fall to 4-8 overall and suffer their first defeat in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play at 2-1. Presentation improves to 2-9 overall and earns its first UMAC with win at 1-2.

Presentation scored the first six points of the game before #Jesse Taylor# (Sr.-Superior, Wis./Maranatha Academy) scored seven minutes in. Presentation extended its lead to 11-2 until the Saints got their offense going and cut the lead to 13-10 after back-to-back 3-pointers by #Danny Schmitz# (So.-Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson). However, Presentation responded with a 15-0 run to go up 28-10 with four minutes to go in the half. The margin got as high as 19, but CSS closed the half on a 12-0 run to trim their deficit to 31-24 at the half.

The Saints shot 35-percent in the half with Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) registering 10 points in the first 20 minutes. Presentation shot 50-percent in the half and had a 20-12 rebounding advantage.

The Presentation margin was around nine for the first five minutes of the second half, but that lead gradually grew to double-digits later in the half as CSS could never get close. Presentation won by a score of 78-60.

The Saints had a field goal percentage of 39-percent, while Presentation finished at 53-percent. Presentation was also 16-for-19 from the free throw line and a 38-25 rebounding edge.

Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) finished with a career-high 17 points to lead CSS. Jesse Taylor (Superior, Wis./Maranatha Academy) had 14 points and #Troy Miller# (Sr.-Stillwater, Minn.) added 12 points. Miller also had a team-high seven rebounds. Stephon Sese paced Presentation with 24 points.

The Saints will head to Minnesota-Morris tomorrow for another conference contest. The tip-off is scheduled for approximately 5 p.m. following the women's game.
