CSS WOMEN GO DOWN AT NORTHLAND

ASHLAND, Wis. – Two weeks since defeating the Northland College LumberJills at home, the St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell at Northland today by a score of 72-46.

The Saints drop to 7-12 overall and 4-4 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The LumberJills improve to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference. The Saints have lost their last three games in Ashland.

#Kelly Cinquegrani# (So.-Buffalo, Minn.) gave the Saints an early lead scoring the first basket of the game. However, the LumberJills scored the next six points and never looked back. CSS did not let Northland pull away early as a pair of #Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) free throws cut the lead to one with three minutes left in the first half. The LumberJills responded by ending the first half on a 10-1 run to go into the locker room with a 32-22 advantage.

The Saints shot 29-percent from the field in the first half, while the Jills shot 44-percent. Northland out-scored St. Scholastica 10-2 on second-chance points.

The LumberJills kept the momentum they had going before the half in the second half as they went on a 9-1 run. CSS got the margin down to 14 points with nine minutes to go in the game, but the Jills had a 10-0 run later in the game and went on to win 72-46.

The Saints shot 26-percent for the game, while the LumberJills finished at 48-percent. The Jills had a 46-34 rebounding advantage and out-scored CSS 20-8 in the paint. Northland also scored 18 points off of 24 CSS turnovers.

Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) had 13 points to pace the Saints. #Katie Christensen# (Jr.-Elk River, Minn.) added 11 points. Kelly Cinquegrani (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and #Alexa Leighton# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) had six rebounds to lead CSS. Ashley Runge had 16 points to lead Northland.

The Saints will host both the University of Minnesota-Morris and Presentation College next weekend. The Morris game will get underway at 5:30 p.m. in Reif Gym on Friday night.
