ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team picked up its 300th victory in program history today with a 70-48 win over Northland College at Kendrigan Gym.
The Saints improve to 9-10 overall and 5-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The LumberJacks fall to 3-15 overall and 2-6 in the conference. Both St. Scholastica Head Coach
David Staniger and Northland Head Coach Rob Robinson took part in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Suits and Sneakers cancer awareness weekend.
The LumberJacks scored the first two points of the game, but the Saints responded with a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 lead three minutes into the game. After a Northland 3-pointer, the Saints went on an 11-0 run, including three straight 3-pointers. The Jacks came back with an 8-0 run to cut the CSS lead to 18-13. But the Saints would not be fazed coming back with a 10-0 run with five points scored by #Jesse Taylor# (
Sr.-Superior, Wis./Maranatha Academy). Northland finished the half on an 8-0 run, but still trailed 33-23 at the break.
The Saints shot 50-percent for the half and were 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Northland shot 45-percent. #Danny Schmitz# (

Sr.-Stillwater, Minn.) each had 10 points in the first 20 minutes.
The LumberJacks got the lead down to eight early in the second half, but the Saints used another 10-0 run to make the score 46-27 with 15 minutes to go in the game. The Saints would cruise to a 70-48 victory.
St. Scholastica shot 53-percent for the game, made 10 3-pointers, and was 12-for-15 from the free throw line. Northland shot 39-percent for the game and gave up 29 points off of 20 turnovers.
Jesse Taylor (Superior, Wis./Maranatha Academy) had a season-high and matched a career-high with 19 points to lead CSS.
Troy Miller (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) added 15 points and
Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) chipped in 13 points. Miller also had a team-high seven rebounds. Joey Brennan and Jordan Arneson had 11 points to top Northland.
The Saints return home next weekend where they will face the University of Minnesota-Morris and Presentation College. The Morris game gets underway at approximately 7:30 p.m., following the women's game on Friday night.
