CABLE, Wis. – Sophomore #Julia Curry# (
So.-Woodbury, Minn.) posted at 23rd place finish, with a time of 19:39.2, in the women's 5 kilometer classic in Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) action today at Telemark Resort, near Cable, Wis.
Curry finished just over two minutes behind winner Laura DeWitt of Northern Michigan University, with a winning time of 17:35.3. Junior #Megan Holmes# (
Jr.-Gilbert, Minn./Mesabi East), finished in 30th and junior #Caroline Lund# (
Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East), finished in 53rd, with times of 20:15.1 and 21:54.2, respectively, to round out Saints scoring and a eighth place finish as a team.
“Julia continues to feel better with every race, and today was a very good performance for her with the entire CCSA field on hand,” said Saints Head Coach
Chad Salmela. “Julia's commitment to learning from each race helps her get more and more confidence every weekend, and we're starting to see her bout with mono in September dissipate with each race.”
The weekend was doubled as a USSA Supertour race with as strong national field. Kristina Strandberg (Sweden) of the Saab Factory Team in 16:55.6, edging out the US Ski Team's Lindsay Dehlin (Marquette, MI) in a time of 17:01.7.
The Saints continue competition tomorrow at Telemark with a 10km mass start freestyle race.
