CSS FALLS AT CARLETON IN SEASON OPENER

LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team lost 6-3 today to 11th-ranked Carleton College at the LifeTime Fitness Center.

The Knights, who are ranked 11th in the central region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), took two of the three doubles matches. Both of CSS's doubles losses were by close scores 9-7 at No. 1 doubles and 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. The Saints' No. 2 doubles team of #Paula Beckermann# (Jr.-Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) and #Katie Motley# (Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) were victorious by a score of 8-5.

In singles action, Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) at No. 3 singles defeated her opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-2. #Callee Conda# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) at No. 4 singles was also victorious by a score of 6-4, 6-1. The Saints also lost a pair of singles matches that could have swung the result in favor of CSS. #Ploy Suthijindawong# (Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) was up a set and 3-2 in the second set when she had to retire due to injury. Also, #Angela Shields# (Jr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) at No. 6 singles lost a tough three-set match 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.

The Saints will have their home opener tomorrow when they host Hamline University at the Burns Wellness Commons. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
