CSS TAKES CARE OF NORTH CENTRAL

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team won its second straight game tonight with a 79-68 victory over North Central University at Reif Gym.

The Saints improve to 8-10 overall, while the Rams fall to 4-10. CSS needs just one more victory for the 300th in program history. The Saints are now 14-2 all-time against the Rams.

Coming off a career game against Bethany Lutheran last Saturday, #Danny Schmitz# (So.-Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson) continued his hot shooting in the first half, scoring nine of CSS's first 13 points including back-to-back 3-pointers to start the game. The Rams took a 13-10 lead four minutes in, but the Saints responded with a 7-0 run and would lead the rest of the way. The margin got up to nine with four minutes left in the half and CSS went into the locker room with a 45-31 advantage.

Schmitz had 16 points in the first half, while #Max Dibrell# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) added 10 points. CSS shot 54-percent in the half, while North Central shot 46-percent.

The CSS lead reached 20 points with 14 minutes to play in the game, but the Rams did not give up as they cut the lead down to six on a couple of occasions. However, the Saints did not let them get any closer as CSS went on to win 79-68.

St. Scholastica shot 46-percent for the game and was 75-percent from the free throw line. The Rams shot 51-percent from the field for the game.

Schmitz led CSS with 19 points, while #Jesse Taylor# (Sr.-Superior, Wis./Maranatha Academy) added 11 points. Max Dibrell (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was the last Saint in double-figures with 10 points. #Kyle Allen# (Sr.-Black River Falls, Wis.) just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Chris Hickox had 16 points to lead North Central.

The Saints start the second round of conference action on Saturday when they travel to face Northland College. The action is set to begin at approximately 5 p.m., following the women's game.
