CHRISTENSEN GIVES CSS THE WIN AT BETHANY

MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team capped off a second half comeback when #Katie Christensen# (Jr.-Elk River, Minn.) scored with seven seconds left to give the Saints a 61-60 win against Bethany Lutheran College.

The Saints improve to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The Vikings fall to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action. CSS improves to 6-3 all-time against the Vikings, including winning the last three games at Bethany Lutheran. CSS Head Coach Stacy Deadrick needs just five more victories for 200 in her career.

With the score tied at 5-5 early, the Vikings went on a 6-0 run and would not relinquish that lead the rest of the half. The margin got as high as 11 with over two minutes to go and Bethany Lutheran led 37-27 at halftime.

The Saints shot 29-percent in the first half, but committed just five turnovers. The Vikings shot 36-percent and had a 30-20 rebounding edge in the half.

The Viking lead reached 14, three minutes into the second half. However, in the last 15 minutes of the contest, CSS kept on chipping away at the lead. Bethany held a nine-point lead with 11 minutes to go and a six-point lead with nine minutes left.

It was 52-44 Vikings with 7:34 remaining when the Saints went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead down to one with six minutes left. With the Saints down four #Alexa Leighton# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) banked in a three to cut the lead to one. Then after a stop on defense, Katie Christensen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River Senior HS) drove baseline and gave the Saints their first lead since the 15:02-mark of the first half. The Vikings' last chance effort fell short as the Saints prevailed in thrilling fashion 61-60.

CSS shot 54-percent in the second half to finish at 39-percent for the game. Bethany Lutheran was held to 33-percent shooting for the game. They did out-rebound St. Scholastica 51-35 and made 10 more free throws. The Saints' bench out-scored the Vikings' bench 27-6 for the game.

#Sam Oraskovich# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Proctor) had a career-high 13 points off the bench to lead CSS. She also had a team-high six rebounds. Katie Christensen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River Senior HS) added 12 points and #Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) had 11 points. Eva Voss had a double-double for the Vikings with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Saints return home Tuesday night for their last non-conference game of the year against North Central University. The action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
