DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team picked up a 65-48 victory this afternoon over Northland College on Alumni Day at Reif Gym.

The win improves the Saints to 5-10 overall and 3-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The LumberJills fall to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in conference action. CSS holds an advantage in the all-timer series at 28-21 and snaps a four-game losing streak to the Jills.

The Saints got off to a good start, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. The LumberJills got their first points five minutes into the contest. Northland took its first lead as part of an 8-0 run to go up 16-10, following back-to-back 3-pointers. CSS responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 17-16 with five minutes to go in the half. However, the LumberJills went on a 7-0 run of their own to go up by six and went into halftime with a 29-20 lead.

CSS shot 25-percent in the half, but out-rebounded the Jills 26-21. Northland shot 33-percent and was 4-for-8 on 3-point attempts.

Just like the beginning of the game the Saints came out strong at the start of the second half, scoring the first eight points to cut the Northland lead to one. A #Taylor Fellbaum# (Fr.-Minong, Wis./Northwood) 3-pointer gave St. Scholastica a 33-31 edge with 17 minutes to play. After the Jills tied the contest, CSS went on a 9-2 run to go up 42-35 with 13 minutes to go. The Saints gradually pulled away the rest of the way to win by a score of 65-48.

CSS shot 53-percent in the second half to finish at 39-percent for the game. The Saints were also 11-for-14 from the free throw line and had a 53-41 advantage on the glass. The LumberJills shot just 18-percent in the second half to finish at 33-percent for the game. The Saints scored 22 points off of 16 Northland turnovers and had a 34-16 scoring edge in the paint.

Taylor Fellbaum (Minong, Wis./Northwood HS) had a career-game for the second straight contest for the Saints, scoring 13 points. #Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. #Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) had a team-high 12 rebounds. #Shannon Lehikoinen# (Fr.-Superior, Wis.) also had a career-high nine points for CSS. Lindsey Hamm led the LumberJills with 10 points.

The Saints hit the road next weekend with a pair of UMAC games. The Saints begin with a contest at Martin Luther College on Friday night. The action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
