MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota-Morris used a 16-0 run at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half to break open a close game and defeat the St. Scholastica women's basketball team 67-48 this afternoon.

The Saints fall to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Cougars improve to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Saints fall to 3-11 all-time against Minnesota-Morris.

Both teams got off to a slow start with just two field goals in the first five minutes. CSS took a 7-3 lead with 13 minutes to play in the first half when #Taylor Fellbaum# (Fr.-Minong, Wis./Northwood) connected on a 3-pointer. The score was 15-15 with less than six minutes to play until the Cougars ended the half on an 11-0 run to take a 26-15 at the half.

The Saints shot just 24-percent in the first 20 minutes, while Morris shot 34-percent.

The Cougars then scored the first five points of the second half to make it a total of a 16-0 run as the score was now 31-15. The Saints only got as close as 14 the rest of the way as the Cougars cruised to a 67-48 victory.

The Saints were held to 28-percent shooting for the game, while the Cougars finished at 43-percent for the day. Morris had a 26-16 scoring advantage in the paint.

#Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) had nine points and 10 rebounds to lead CSS. #Laura Amys# (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) added eight points. Nikki Washek paced the Cougars with 17 points.

The Saints will take on Finlandia University (Mich.) at Reif Gym on Tuesday night. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
