MOORHEAD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season today with a 1-0 defeat to Saint John's University at the Cobber Soccer Invitational.

The Saints fall to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Johnnies improve to 4-0-0. The Johnnies were ranked ninth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas West Regional poll.

Both teams had six shots in the first half, but neither team got on the scoreboard. Finally in the 59th minute, St. John's scored the lone goal of the contest when Colin Hall put the ball in the net.

Defense dominated the match as there were a combined five saves in the contest. #Sam Reed# (Fr.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) had three saves, all in the second half, in the loss for St. Scholastica. Luke Nelson had two saves for the Johnnies to pick up the victory. #Rob Miller# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) and #Toby Peter# (So.-Spalt, Germany/U.S. Bach) had the two shots on goal for the Saints.

The Saints will travel to Ashland and face Northland College in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener on Wednesday. That game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
