MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team put up six goals today in the 6-0 victory at Bethany Lutheran College.
The Saints improve to 9-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings fall to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the conference. The Saints are unbeaten against the Vikings in seven matchups. CSS has now won 49 straight regular season UMAC matches.
It took the Saints just 18 seconds to get on the scoreboard as #Ellyn Litecky# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored her second goal is as many days. #Robin Johnson# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) and #Sara Olson# (Sr.-Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) had the assists. The score remained 1-0 until the 44th minute when Robin Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) scored to put the Saints up 2-0. #Angie Groh# (Jr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) and Ellyn Litecky (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had the assists.
In the second half, #Jen Krokum# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored two goals in the span of 4:16, the first one off of a corner kick in the 55th minute and the second on a header off of a cross. #Nicole Brandt# (So.-Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) had the assist on the first goal, while #Sarah Bartlette# (Jr.-East Grand Forks, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) had the assist on the second goal.
Bartlette then put the ball in the net just 35 seconds later to make the score 5-0. Angie Groh (Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) had the assist. Robin Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) capped off the scoring in the 63rd minute with her second goal of the day and her ninth on the season as the Saints went on to win 6-0. Johnson now has 54 career goals, four shy of school record and 141 career points, 13 away from the school record.
The Saints out-shot the Vikings 35-3 in the match, including 22-0 in the second half. #Erin Olejnicak# (Fr.-Brainerd, Minn.) had two saves to earn the shutout in her second collegiate start.
The Saints return home next weekend for a homecoming matchup against the University of Minnesota-Morris. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. following the men's match at Saints Field.
