MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team finished its weekend road trip with a 4-0 victory today over Bethany Lutheran College.
The Saints improve to 6-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings fall to 3-5-1 overall and a UMAC record of 1-3-0. The Saints are 8-1-0 all-time against the Vikings, winning the last eight meetings.
Rob Miller (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored his second goal in as many days in the 21st minute, when the Vikings knocked the ball into their own net. #Dustin James# (So.-Superior, Wis.) was credited with the assist. Less than four minutes later, #Toby Peter# (So.-Spalt, Germany/U.S. Bach) also scored his second goal in as many days with a header off of a corner kick from #Jermaine Dacres# (So.-Nottingham, England/Haywood). CSS out-shot Bethany Lutheran 20-3 in the first half.
The Saints continued their offensive pressure in the second half as #Brandon Stemwedel# (Fr.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored at 56:22 to make the score 3-0. Dacres and #Courtney Bonnick# (Fr.-Nottingham, England) had the assists. The Saints added their final goal with 35 seconds left in the match as #Joey Maida# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored his first collegiate goal to make the final 4-0. #Jim Atol# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) had the assist.
The Saints had a season-high 35 shots and four goals. #Zach Schneider# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) had four saves for St. Scholastica for his fourth shutout of the season. William Tatge had 11 saves in the loss for Bethany Lutheran.
